About Mr. Norwalt
Mr. Norwalt, who began teaching in 1988, has been at Colina since 2001. He holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in electrical engineering. He and his wife have two children, ages 11 and 8. Mr. Norwalt's hobbies include golf, tennis and "coaching Jesse in baseball."

Course Descriptions

Exploratory 6: Keyboarding
Students learn the basic skills of touch typing using Type to Learn.  Students are also given web research projects. Students create PowerPoint Presentations for each of these projects.

Past projects have included:

"I want my mummy" - debate on what to do with a recently discovered Egyptian Mummy.

"A Forest Forever" - A committee decides on the best use for the newly designated Norwalt National Forest.

Exploratory 7: Computer Applications
Students learn how to use Microsoft Office.  We focus on internet projects which require the group or student to produce documents using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Past Projects have included:

"Historical Fiction" - Students produce a PowerPoint about a Historical Story they have written in Word.  Time periods include Gettysburg, "I have a Dream" speech, Apollo moon program.

"Dream Vacation Plan" - Students research the cost of a "graduation" present trip.  They are given 4 locations and have to research and compare each then decide which they will take.  The project includes a PowerPoint presentation and Excel spreadsheets detailing the costs of each trip.

Computer 8: Advanced
Students learn web site development, web animation and digital image editing using Macromedia
Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash.

Projects include:

Development of www.westlakewarriorsftbl.org website for the Westlake High School football program.

Development of www.whsvolleyball.org website for the Westlake High School volleyball program.

Animation projects using Macromedia Flash similar to examples

Creating Flash Games using Actionscripting.

Future Projects will hopefully include basics of CAD/CAM and CNC milling
