About Ms. Burke
Ms. Burke began her career in education in 1986; she has taught at Colina since 2000. She has two sons: Kyle, who attends University of Oklahoma, and Adam, who is a senior at Westlake High. Mrs. Burke gets a great deal of support from her husband and sons in all her endeavors at Colina. when she is not grading, directing plays, watching soccer games, or attending choir performances, she enjoys watching House, Smallville and Whose Line Is It, Anyway?

Report Cards Makeup Work Late Work
To find out the daily homework, upcoming tests and long-term assignments...

To find out the student's grades on assignments and tests... Regarding the student's mid-tri Progress Report and end-of-tri Report Card... To make up work after absence... Regarding turning in late homework...

Log on with the PIN & Password*; to find out your student's homework, click News (NOT Assignments) in the upper left. Zangle PIN and Password info are mailed home within the first few weeks of the year.

Then select class from the drop-down menu, type student Last Name, type Password*, click View Report. Password is case-sensitive; it's a CAPITAL LETTER, lower-case letter, lower-case letter, numeral, numeral, numeral (e.g., Xyz123). My Own Grades Password (which is different from the Zangle Password) is mailed home within the first few weeks of the year.

My Own Grades is updated approximately each 2-3 weeks (subject to change).

...go to Progress Reports & Report Cards. 1. Find out the assignment:
a. Call a Study Buddy (at the start of the school year, your student should exchange phone numbers with at least two other students per class); or
b. Look up the assignment in Zangle ParentConnect (Parent needs to login with parent PIN/ Password.*)
c. Upon return, check makeup folder in classroom.

2. Obtain any missed handouts:
a. Prearrange with a Study Buddy that if either of you is absent, the other should pick up an extra set of handouts from the teacher; then you and your parent should arrange (with the family that picked up) for FAXing or pickup of the handouts; or
b. Upon return, check makeup folder in classroom.

3. Get any explanation you need:
As student for notes, or set time with Ms. Burke before school, during lunch, SURE, or after school.

District policy stipulates that a student has as many days as he/she was absent to make up missed work. However, it is desirable that as much work as possible be done during one's absence.
No late homework accepted, except for an excused absence.
* Letters with Zangle PIN/Password and with My Own Grades Password are mailed home within the first few weeks of the start of the school year. For Zangle, if you had a PIN/Password last year, it's the same this year.

Expectations for Success

Student Responsibilities
A. Calendar all work daily in your Assignment Notebook.
B. Study on average for 1.5 to 2 hours per weeknight.*
1) Do Homework that's due tomorrow.
2) Work on Long-Term Assignments.
3) Quiz yourself for upcoming Tests.
4) Review back work on your own.
*cumulative time for all subjects combined; of course, the actual time on any given day will vary.

Parent Recommendations
A. Check your student's Assignment Notebook.
B. Check the actual completed work. (Don't just ask "Did you do it?" Instead say, "Show me.")
