About the Spelling Bee |Open to all Colina studentsgrades 6, 7, and 8; a student may sign up to enter the Bee in the Colina Counseling Center; be sure to observe the signup deadline, indicated at the top of this web page and on the signup form. In advance of the Spelling Bee, contestants may ask at the Counseling Center for a copy of Spell It! (which replaces Paideia), a booklet which will be the source for all or most all of the Colina Bee words; Spell It! is also downloadable via this link: http://www.myspellit.com/Spell_It_2008_download.pdf The words in Spell It! will be made available to the general public as wellvia the Ventura County Star newspaper, which is published by National Spelling Bee Sponsor Scripps Howard. The Spelling Bee is oral. Exact contest rules will be given at the start of the Bee, and may vary from those in Paideia or in the National Spelling Bee. To our way of thinking, each contestant is a winner for turning on to learning ...so that he or she can be a better and better communicator.. Colina's school champion is awarded a $75 Best Buy Gift Card and winner medal. The first place winner automatically earns an invitation to Awards Night. Second place winner receives a $50 Best Buy Gift Card, and the third place speller earns a $25 Best Buy Gift Card. The top three scorers are acknowledged on Colina's website and the public address system. Participants' parents are invited to attend as an audience!. |
