Spanish Class Policies

To ensure that we have the best possible experience and environment within which to learn, please follow the general rules and guidelines for a successful school year.

.1. You must be in your assigned seat before the bell rings. Failure to be in your seat will result in a class tardy. You will receive 10 points off of citizenship for an unexcused tardy.

2. You must bring to class each day: (1) covered textbook; (2) pens (pencils are not permitted); (3) notebook. (You are required to buy or use an old three-ring binder fil1ed with 5 dividers and paper. It will be used for the storage of board work, cultural awareness, homework, oral practice and participation. It is used only for Spanish class). Each exercise in the notebook must be dated. Certain sections must also have the page written. You can use this notebook as a reference for future Spanish classes (4) homework workbook (Practice Workbook) (It needs to be purchased.)(5) classroom workbook (WAVA) (It will be provided for you.)

3. You are also required to buy a workbook from the student store for $15. If you cannot afford to buy one, please tell me immediately and I will get you a loner.

4. You may not leave your seat without permission at any time for any reason. You must stay in your seat until the bell rings or when I dismiss you. If you need to throw away a piece of paper or use the pencil sharpener, you must raise your hand and receive permission first.

5.. Class begins each day with a warm-up. Each exercise must begin with the date. If you are absent, you must get the warm-up from another student.

6. There is to be NO: 1) gum, food, candy, or drinks (except water); 2)grooming: hair combing. applying make-up 3)unnecessary talking; 4)notes: writing, reading or passing; 5) desktop writing in class

7. Homework will be assigned every night, including weekends. It is due the following day at the beginning of class. After the warm-up, homework should be taken out and passed to the first person in your row. If you are absent, you have as many days as you were absent to make up the work. NO LATE WORK IS PERMITTED OTHERWISE. You must be responsible to show me the late work; I will not ask you to show it to me. Credit will be given for completion, not correctness. Homework accounts for 15% of your grade

8. In order to benefit and progress in class, you must participate orally. Each time that you participate in class, you will receive a point (stamp) for your effort. A curve will be established at the end of each grading period in order to determine your grade. Participation accounts for 15% of your grade.

9. In order to assess you accurately, 70% of your grade will be based on tests and quizzes. They will include writing, speaking, reading and listening. Pop quizzes can be given at any given time; however, major tests will be announced ahead of time. Typically, there is one test/quiz per week. The following test protocol will be followed: (1) Do not get out of our seat at any time during a test. Please raise your hand if you have a problem or a question and I will come to you. (2) Keep your eyes down and on your own paper. You must have your test covered at all times. (3) Talking of any kind during a test will result in a fail on that test. (4) All tests will be given at one sitting. I will not allow you to come back to finish a test during lunch or after school. (5) There will be no re-testing due to poor performance. (6) If you are absent on the day of the test, you must take the test the day you return during class. It is your responsibility to make up the test. If you do not make up the test, you will receive a 0. (7) There will be a cumulative final exam at the end of each semester.

10. When grades are averaged, they are based on a percentage of points:
100-90% A; 89-80% B; 79-70% C; 69-60% D; 59-0% F.
Grades are cumulative for each semester. We follow the high school calendar. Students receive high school credit for this course. You must have a C or higher at the end of the school year in order to progress to the next level of Spanish.
11. There is no extra-credit in this class. .
