Colina students have an opportunity to participate in the annual Relay for Life.
On Saturday-Sunday, Sept 30-Oct. 1, starting at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at Panthers Stadium in Newbury Park High School, the opening ceremonies will begin for Relay For Life. Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society's nationwide, signature event, is a 24-hour celebration of life in the fight against cancer. As part of the event, we line the track with luminaria (lighted candles in weighted, white bags). Each luminaria is lit in honor of someone who survived cancer, or in memory of someone who did not. The honoree's names are prominently displayed on the bags. As the participants walk or run through the night, the luminaria remind and inspire them that the fight against cancer is about real people in their community. The luminaria are sold for $7 each or 3 for $20. The monies raised will fund cancer research, education and patient services.

Join us for the luminaria ceremony at 8:00 p.m. Saturday night. At this time all the candles will be lit, and included as a part of the ceremony all the names will be read. This moving ceremony pays great tribute to our friends and loved ones who have battled cancer.

Help us as we work toward a cure for cancer. Thank you!

More than $4,500 was raised by Colina's 40 participants. The 2003 Colina ASB Relay For Life Team was recently recognized by the American Cancer Society for their contributions to this year's Relay For Life event.  40 ASB students participated on this year's team.  There were over 120 teams this year.  The Colina ASB team was recognized as the 3rd Place School Team. This means that the Colina ASB collected the 3rd highest total out of all of the schools that participated.  Colina was also awarded the prestigious First Place Rookie Of The Year award.  This award goes to the first year team that raises more money than any other first year team.
