Rachel's Challenge

For some 20 years, Peer Tutors have been an integral component of learning strategies for Colina students. Each year approximately 10% of the student population has been involved as either tutors or tutees. Tutoring takes place primarily at lunch or after school, during SURE (the daily 15-minute period following lunch), or within regular periods throughout the day in various academic subjects.
Some Peer Tutors and their tutees work on math, science, English or social science in lieu of having the usual SURE silent reading. Or they may work during this time on organizational or other study skills. Other students request Peer Tutors as their elective; in other words, instead of having a course such as Chorus, Band or Woodshop, these students opt to aid other students by tutoring an assigned student or group of students in an academic course, in P.E. or in another class. Peer Tutoring is also the service component of California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF).
