2004 Fashion Show: The Dialogue

Act 1

Lauren Iezza and Matt Meyer enter

Matt:                Good evening!  How about another round of applause for the jammin’ “Blues Boys!”  Welcome to our 2004 fashion show “Passion for Fashion.”  I’m Matt Meyer.

Lauren:             And I’m Lauren Iezza.  Before we begin, please turn all cell phones and pagers either off or to silent.

Matt:                We’re very proud to be up here tonight.  We have a wonderful school, and we’re extremely happy to have the opportunity to not only bring you some of the highlights of today’s fashions and a few of our terrific students and teachers, but also to tell you about some of the ways Colina is passionate about education.

Lauren:             The administrators and teachers at Colina are passionate about the students here.  With the help of our parents, they passionately devote themselves to opportunities for us in academics, arts, athletics, leadership, and community service.  Tonight, we will highlight just a few of our awesome programs.  So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Group A            Brooke Anderson, Janet Glynn, Madison Lane, Mr. Johnson

Lauren Iezza and Matt Meyer stay on stage

Matt            An education at Colina is so much more than sitting in a classroom, listening to lectures and taking tests.  What makes it stand out is its many special programs.

Lauren            Let’s take science, for example. We do have an incredible science lab and great science teachers, but there are lots of opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and experience beyond the classroom.

Matt            There’s Science Olympiad every year – All science classes compete while doing fun experiments ranging from egg drops to aerodynamics.  This takes over 100 parent volunteers – now that’s passion!

Lauren            Our school Science Fair had over 240 participants this year!  Last year, we had 16 winners at the County level with two traveling on to the State Science fair.  There’s also the CO2 cars that all 8th graders build for a day of racing competition, the Science Club for Girls, and spanning science and math, we have the ever-popular Bridge Breakoff for 6th graders.

Matt           Well, you don’t have to be Einstein to recognize we have some stellar models to introduce.

Announcers pause while models enter.

Lauren           That’s right!  Introducing the magnetic Brooke Andersen in a fun “Dip Dyed” skirt and jacket.  She’s wearing a matching scarf around her waist.  Brook chose a white tank to wear under the jacket.  Her outfit is accessorized with a fantastic yellow leather clutch and dangling earrings.  Make sure to notice the blue sequin flower in her hair.!

When Brooke is not at school she enjoys swimming, hanging with her mother and trading Pokimon cards.  She enjoys her lunch lady friends here and her favorite motto is “Get Your Own Box.”  Thanks Brooke!

Matt           Demonstrating electric energy we have Janet Glenn, pretty in pink, and ready to go out for a night on the town in this beautiful BCBG dress with matching silk scarf.  Notice the perfect pink chandelier earrings and funky evening bag.

Janet loves all the wonderful new friends she has made at Colina.  She would like to be a journalist and travel the world.  She loves to play the drums and with her Power Ranger Action Figures.  Awesome Janet!

Lauren           Defying gravity as she floats down the aisle is Madison Lane.  Madison is wearing a hand-dyed top with sequin accents and white linen pants…perfect for summer!  She is also carrying a bright turquoise feathered clutch purse.

Madison likes to play softball and go places with her sister Lauren when she is not at Colina.  She enjoys the strict dress code at Colina and says her favorite motto is “This isn’t dress code!”  Thanks Madison!

Matt           Mr. Johnson shows off what a dapper guy he is in his tuxedo from The Formal Image.  Although he would love to be a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, Mr. Johnson is grateful to Mr. Lou Ramirez, his high school social studies teacher, who inspired and encouraged him to become a teacher.  Mr. Johnson’s favorite motto is “What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right”!  Well, you’re right Mr. Johnson!  And popular!  Thank you.

Announcers wait for all models to strike pose

Anna Halligan and Stacey Lehr enter

Anna             Hi!  I’m Anna Halligan.

Stacey            And I’m Stacey Lehr.

Anna            Colina has opportunities galore for students inclined towards the dramatic as well as those who just enjoy watching performances!

Stacey             Obviously, the fashion show comes to mind as one opportunity for students to “express themselves” but some 60 students recently participated in our annual Talent Show, dancing, singing, acting and playing musical instruments for very enthusiastic crowds!

Anna           Eighth grade girls have the opportunity to participate in Women in History and portray women who have made important contributions to society.  We’ve also been presented with Shakespeare’s “Comedy of Errors” this year and look forward to the upcoming “Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”  Oooh, scary!

ANNOUNCERS PAUSE WHILE MODELS ENTER.

Anna:           These models in fashions from Sugar have a flair for the dramatic!

Stacey           First up is Caroline Abraham wearing a mini skirt and jacket by Diesel in a spring cream color.  Her orange tee shirt is by James Perse and her accessories are by Dominica.

Caroline’s passion is dance and her goal is to be a professional dance choreographer.  She lists several of her friends here at Colina as being people she admires:  Katharine because she is just so silly, Kaitlyn for being such a good athlete and the awesome Sarah.  She wants to “reach for the stars.”  You’ll do it Caroline!

Anna           Strutting her stuff next is Lily Marston looking like spring.  She is wearing a Michael Star pink cami with a James Perse tee on top.  We cannot forget dress code!  Her white terry jacket is by Juicy Couture and her jewelry is handmade by a local artist Dominica.

Lily loves to play basketball.  In fact, if she could be anything, she would be an 8 foot point guard in the WNBA.  She says looks up to her grandma, an amazing artist, who taught her to always try her hardest.  Here at Colina, she enjoys the great teachers and the good-looking guys. Thanks Lily!

Stacey           Sure to win lots of awards, next we have Sarah Primm.  Nothing says spring like her pink skirt from Juicy and white Diesel top.

Sarah hopes to become a success in the music industry either singing or writing, or both.  She is passionate about singing and says that her voice instructor Mary Harris Drummond has inspired her since the first grade to develop her musical talent.  Her favorite motto is “Don’t get even, get odd!”  Great job Sarah!

Anna            The winning Kaitlyn Watase’s outfit begins with a yellow flora Michael Star button down shirt, matched with a great pair of Juicy stretch jeans and finished by Dominica accessories.

Kaitlyn’s Colina friends have inspired her, and encouraged her.  She admires Caroline for helping her to discover that sharing is good, Sarah for her musical talent and if she could do anything she would be like her friend Katharine.  Thanks Kaitlyn.

Stacey           Here’s one of our finest performers:  Mr. Frank wearing a fabulous outfit from Copelands.

Mr. Frank is obviously in the right profession in the right place, because he says if he could do anything that would be teach.  He enjoys the atmosphere at Colina and the pursuit of excellence.  His other passions are his baby boy Tegan and his wife.  He says “Make it big, do it right and give it class.”  He always does.  Thank you Mr. Frank!

Jake            Mr. Kane also presides over many of our Bees!

Jake            No!  I mean the Spelling, Geography, Language, and Spanish Vocabulary Bees!

Chris            I’m Chris Kazmer, and I am the future!

Look at each other and say together:  YIKES!

Trevor            It’s a good thing Colina has everything we need to help us prepare.

Chris            I’ll say!

Trevor            Did you know High School counselors were just here with materials and information for the 8th graders’ next step? And future freshman night at Westlake was just last week!

Chris            It’s important that we become good citizens in our community, our country and our world.  All students are upheld to a very high code of citizenship here both in and out of the classroom.

Trevor            Colina is big on supporting good values for our future too.  Administrators and teachers are passionate about upholding the values of integrity, personal accountability, and respect for the rights of others with serious consequences for those who cheat.

Chris            I don’t know about you Trevor, but I for one am glad to know that everyone at Colina is passionate about our future!

ANNOUNCERS PAUSE WHILE MODELS ENTER.

Trevor           Looking ahead we have Nicole Schloss wearing a yellow cotton skirt with a striped ruffle made by Pearl.  Her clothing is layered on top with a yellow tank underneath a fuchsia cotton tank accented with a detachable pink flower.  Sandals by Aqua Girl and a yellow and pink bangle finish it off.  All are from Frenzy.

Courtney looks up to her dad because he always works hard. She says her mom always encourages her to do her best and never give up.  She has enjoyed all of the teachers and her friends at Colina and would like to become a lawyer.  Good luck Courtney!

Chris            Proving that high expectations equal high achievement is Mr. Santos.  He is lookin’ lux in his tux from The Formal Image.  Mr. Santos is a busy teacher here.  He says his wife has inspired him to become a better person and a harder worker.  We think that would be pretty difficult, since he is already involved in ASB, ELD, coaching, and counseling.  He is passionate about being a positive influence towards students, and it shows!

Announcers wait for models to strike pose on runway together.

Trevor           Thank to Frenzy and The Formal Image for these “in the now” clothes!

Gracie           Hi everyone!  I’m Gracie Canaan, and this is Andrew Singer.

Andrew           We want to thank the PTSA for producing this show tonight!

Gracie           The Parents part of the PTSA put in over 14,000 volunteer hours to support Colina last year.  In fact, many of the programs you have heard about and will hear about tonight are facilitated by our PTSA, both through hours and money. They publish the family directory and the monthly newsletter, provide books and computers, fund extracurricular programs and classroom resources, beautify our campus and produce this fantastic fashion show.

Andrew           The Students part of PTSA meet during their lunch time to plan community service projects.  They had a Fall Manna Drive, a booth at the Carnival, a Winter Toy Drive, and sold Candygrams, and they aren’t done yet!  Be sure to participate in their upcoming Manna drive next week!

ANNOUNCERS PAUSE WHILE MODELS ENTER.

Gracie           Time to highlight some more of the fantastic fashions we have tonight.  First up is Amanda Nielsen in a layered look perfected by pairing a nude colored organic cotton tank top with her olive green V-neck T-shirt.  Her colorful lightweight knit scarf is perfect for any season.  Together with her jeans, this ensemble is a definite success.

Amanda has enjoyed Colina’s volleyball team and ASB and would like to teach underprivileged children around the world.  Her favorite quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but rising up each time we fail.”  Thanks Amanda!

Andrew           Here comes Becky Schneider in an outfit from Surrender.  Her bright floral top is a great summer piece and together with the soft light green poncho and her Red Engine jeans this look is a winner.

Becky looks up to her brother Matt who writes poems.  She says his poetry explores new angles of life and its meanings.  When not at school, she likes to play volleyball and chat with her dogs.  Her first grade teacher inspired her by teaching her to always be positive and to never give up.    Great job Becky!

Gracie           Alisa Morrison is prancin’ down the promenade wearing a beautiful ensemble.  The top has a cowl neckline and an adjustable shoulder detail for a nice fit.  Her matching light green and purple floral print skirt makes this flowing look perfect.

Alisa likes to hang with her friends and her twin brother Evan, whom she particularly appreciates for having helped her to rollerblade better.  Her favorite author is Roald Dahl because she gets lost in his stories.  Thanks Alisa!

Andrew           Sam Ostrom is looking pretty cool tonight in his traditional black tuxedo and white spread collar with the white pique vest and matching colored ascot tie.

Sam’s passion is football, and he would like to be a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49’ers.  He enjoys all his friends at Colina.  Thanks Sam.

Gracie            Ms. Saleh says “Batten down the hatches and hold on for the ride” and here she comes!   Oh no!  Mrs. Saleh is DRESS CODE!  She is wearing great purple silk wrap pants with silk Chinese Laundry shoes.  That’s a cool copper metallic knit top but oh, Ms. Saleh!

Ms. Saleh is a recent California League of Middle Schools Educator of the Year Nominee and Johns Hopkin Fellow, and it’s easy to see why.  Her passion is Colina and as she puts it, its tremendous community of families and teachers.  She has been inspired by two people:  her mother, who shows her what a great person looks like and Mr. Waters for showing her what a great school looks like.

Announcers wait for models to strike pose on runway together.

Gracie            Thank you Ms. Saleh, all of our models, Surrender, and The Formal Image!

Stephanie: Are Classical movies your passion, Rachel? How about Chess? These are two clubs at Colina that have evolved in the past few years and collected a following of students.

Rachel: Four years ago, teacher, Mary Crawford began the Adelante Mujeres (A-dell-ahn-tay MOO-hair-es) Club, Stephanie. What began as a Latina girls group has grown to incorporate a multi-cultural diversity among our female students. The Adelante Mujeres perform community services, participate in Crop Walk, collect toys for children in Mexico and collect non-perishable food items for Manna several times a year.

Stephanie: Last year Ms.Crawford was given the Teacher of the Year Award by the Rotary Club. Former students have nothing but praise to give when asked about her Social Science class. She presents her students with opportunities to evaluate social events for themselves, directing them to a variety of resources.

Rachel: Her persistence in analyzing government, questioning the power of world leaders and paying attention to world events are critical keys that have helped tune the minds of students for years. After 30 years of teaching Ms.Crawford will be retiring this June. We’d like to thank her this evening for her wisdom and devotion to all Colina Cougars. (Clap....clap....clap...)

Nestor’s motto is: Don’t cry for someone who won’t cry for you. Wow, that’s tough, Nestor.

Wow, love those knock-out hip-hugger jeans by Plastic... on Sydney Liebes (Leee-bis). Sydney’s teamed a yellow racer back tank with a strapless white top printed with tiny red, blue and yellow stars. The yellow bangle on her wrist punches up the look. Sydney describes herself as hyper, loud, energetic and talkative.. She credits Dave Clark, her softball coach , who encourages her in her sport; and her mom, who never discourages her but supports her in every way in pursuing her goals. Rock on, Sydney.

Rachel:  Sashaying our way now is Sarrah Toland  in bright white capris by Plastic.... Sarrah’s layered a statement tee shirt over a lime green tank and tied the whole look together with a sheer turquoise sash. Her low heeled strappy sandals have a fun polka dot print on the sole.... Sarrah has a favorite designer, her mother, Sheila Toland!, who designs fun and fabulous clothes. What she has enjoyed most about her years at Colina are the teachers. When she is not at school she likes to eat and go wakeboarding. You’ve got the look, Sarrah, you surf queen!

Here is Alana Rosenblum looking fresh as a breeze in a colorful, sheer floral ruffled skirt. Layering sheer tops is in right now and Alan wears yellow beneath limegreen for a citrus kick. Her bangles repeat the colors and cute yellow and gold sandals with a butterfly accent adorn her spritely step!.......... If Alana could be anything and not fail she would like to be a successful clothing designer. Alana says her mom has been her biggest inspiration because she never gives up and perseveres in life. Optimistic, friendly and thoughtful are key words Alana uses in describing herself. Thank you, Alana.

 Lia Woodward, Carly Lang, Mr.Passalacqua

Courtney : Not all of us are born leaders. Here at Colina there are many ways students are encouraged to develop specific leadership skills. Taking an active role in our community by assisting in community services inspires many kids to help others in need. On a quieter scale, peer tutors on campus are enormously appreciated. Were you aware, Melina, that our very own Mr.Passalacqua, Dean of students, supports many community service programs? He plays an important role in our Leadership programs.

Melina:  Mr.Passalacqua is on a mission against Bullying and Violence, Courtney. And he is a strong crusader promoting school spirit. For the past two years he has proudly lead Colina in creating cheers and decorations for spirit night, and in practicing performances that have ultimately lead our school to winning the trophy for Middle School Spirit Champions. He is also, Johnny-on-the-Spot when a crisis arises. Let’s have a look at what our stylish leaders of tomorrow are featuring from Copelands Sport aand ROCK N ROSE......

Courtney:  Sarah Lorsch is keeping her look sublime wearing.......... Sarah enjoys gymnastics, dance, boogie boarding at the beach and talking with her friends when she is not at school. -Her favorite writer is Meg Cabot because she says whenever she reads one of her books she feels as if she is actually there.
