In the spring of the school year (or upon enrollment, if the student enters Colina once the year has begin), each student is given a choice of one elective: a year-long course or the trimesterly rotational Exploratory courses. If a student selects Exploratory courses, he/she rotates through a trimester of each of three classes. Exploratory offerings may vary per period and per school year; the specific courses and the order in which they take place for a given student are determined by the school (they're not a student choice).

The Elective Preference Form (title simply, Preference Form) is given to each student in the spring of the school year for the following year (for incoming grade 6 students, Colina delivers the forms to the main "feeder" elementry schools);
